Patent for easiest TOC calibration
After the grant of a patent in Germany, Europe and Russia LAR Process Analysers AG was granted the USA patent for the calibration of TOC analysers with gas instead of liquids.
The calibration and validation of the calibration function of TOC analysers at measurement ranges of 0 – 2,000 µg/l, is usually a very difficult task for the operator. LAR AG developed an easy and fast solution and filed a patent for this “gas calibration” method. A reliable calibration and verification in extremely low measurement ranges can be guaranteed with this method by using span gas. The usual work, risks in measurement accuracy and the contamination risks for the calibration solution are not applicable.
Using a high temperature method with at least 1200°C LAR AG succeeded in the improvement and simplification of calibration and validation procedures for TOC Analysers. All other methods require the constant provision of respective aqueous standards for the calibration and examination which is extremely time consuming.
LAR's innovative calibration method is performed with specified test gas as follows:
With QuickTOC®purity the amount of ultra pure water to be defined with the injection loop and is then injected into the reactor through the carrier gas stream. The injection loop is filled with span gas and the precise defined amount is also injected into the oven through the carrier gas.
As the operating mode always provides 1200°C, a defined amount of methane can be used as span gas, as well as a defined amount of carbon dioxide. Span gases like these are stable for a long time and usable for months. The ultra pure water analysers from LAR can be validated and calibrated at any time. The operation is automated and guarantees almost a 100% accuracy in the analysers' measurements.
Our newly patented gas calibration method is applied to QuickTOC® condensate, QuickTOC® purity, and QuickTOC® pharma.
QuickTOC®condensate, as well as the other TOC analysers is characterised by very low maintenance requirements of only a few minutes per week. In TC-mode the analyser works completely without the need of reagents. This innovation remarkably reduces operational and maintenance costs in comparison to the usual measurement methods available on the market. QuickTOC®condensate is especially suitable for monitoring pure and cooling water, as well as being adequate for the boiler feed water and condensate measurement according to the standard international regulations.
The high temperature TOC analysers are suitable for two or multi-channel operations. The analysers are also available in cabinets specific for ATEX zone 1 and 2.
