The Wasserplenum of 21 January 2009 at the City Hall of Berlin, the Berliner Rathaus, offered a productive discussion about future models of water competency.
More than 70 people, professionals from the water sector, research and public administration joined together and were greeted by the Permanent Secretary in the Senate Department, Almuth Nehring-Venus, in an introductory speech. She emphasised the significance of the German capital region, Berlin- Brandenburg, as a forerunner of water competency and innovation.
Important factors of prospective water competency mentioned were networking, contact with Universities in the region, internationalisation and the development of adaptable technologies that are integrated into comprehensive solutions. After intensive discussion and dialogue among the expert panel, Mrs. Nehring-Venus endorsed the Federal State of Berlins' support of these factors.
