这种细菌依靠(消费)氧气从氨转化为硝酸盐,所以也通常被描述为硝化细菌。ToxAlarm测量这个过程的耗氧量。因为样品中的有毒物质抑制细菌的呼吸,从而降低他们的耗氧量。ToxAlarm监控这耗氧量,因而能得出样品是否具有毒性。
