Title: All About Accuracy
Medium: Hydrocarbon Engineering, Palladin Publicatons UK
Media Issue: 7 / 2016
Types of Water: Industrial Waste Water
Parameters: TOC, DOC, TNb, COD
Content: The continuous total organic carbon (TOC) analysis of industrial wastewater is know to be problematic - especially when the TOC analyzer is used as a spill monitor for heavily polluted wastewater containing a high load of particles. Thus, most operators require analyzers that enable accurate TOC measurements. But do they really get these? Common analysers suffer from clogging and blockages due to their measuring techniques using tubes and valves. They require pretreatment and/or filtration of the sample. However any pretreatment and/or filtritation will affect the analyzers measuring results. Removing particles means removing carbons and, hence, an inaccurate measurement. Instead of total organic carbon, the analyzer determines only some organic carbon.
