The on-line analyzer QuickTOCultra by LAR Process Analysers AG, Berlin, is a measurement system for the determination of the total organic carbon (TOC) in water. The parameter TOC will be inter alia used for the assessment of cooling water quality.

Using a horizontally and vertically moving injection needle the sample will be transported and injected form the sample vessel into the furnace. Due to the robust needle organic particulates of the sample will be considered during measurement reliably. Thus, sample filtration is unnecessary. Especially, when using surface water for the treatment of cooling water – where organic solids can occur – this is a huge advantage, since the sample is analyzed in its entirety. In the furnace, the sample is combusted at 1200°C. Based on the high temperature, the organic content is completely oxidized to CO2. Hence, operators do not need expensive oxidation promoting catalysts. The entire TOC measurement cycle takes place in less than 3 minutes.

Due to its special construction design LAR's TOC analyzer QuickTOCultra is optimally suited for any cooling water challenge. The analyzer can measure up to six sample streams in one unit. Hence, the inlet and outlet of the cooling cycle can be monitored in one single TOC analyzer. Differences in TOC that arise for example due to leakage or product spills are detected quickly. Thus, operators can take countermeasures to protect the cooling cycle as well as the environment.
